Privacy

Understand is a voice tutor. This is what it keeps and why.

What is stored

Microphone audio is streamed while the mic is on and is not recorded or kept; only the transcript is.

Who processes it

It is stored in a Postgres database hosted by Neon in the United States; uploaded files are stored with Cloudflare (R2). To answer you, your speech and the conversation are sent to OpenAI (voice), to a language model through OpenRouter, and, when the tutor searches, to Exa (web search) and Serper (images). The text of a document you upload is sent to the language model when you talk in that tutor. An import reads the address you give it, or GitHub's public API, and sends that text to the language model. Nothing is sold or used for advertising.

Deleting it

In the app, open Settings in the sidebar and choose Delete account. Your account and everything above are deleted at once.
